Two resolutions for the improvement of the Gregorio T. Lluch Memorial Hospital — a 10-bed mental ward and an eye center, were approved by the 16th Council of the Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Iligan.
Authored by Councilor Belinda “Doc Bunz” Lim, chairman of the Committee on Health and Sanitation, the two resolutions were both approved during the regular session of the Iligan 16th Council last June 26 and July 24, respectively.
In strong support of President Duterte’s Mental Health Law and in response to the rising cases of mental illnesses in the country, and the prevalence of eye diseases and visual impairments, Councilor Lim finds the mental ward and the eye center to be among the topmost priorities, serving the needs of the constituents of the city, especially the poor, who cannot afford the high cost of private medical practitioners.
The construction of the mental ward will be requested from the Department of Health, while the request to provide area and logistics for the eye center is addressed to the Chief Executive of the Local Government Unit.
With the resolutions for a mental ward and an eye center already approved by the 16th Council of Iligan City, there is now a bigger possibility for the two facilities to be built sooner in the city’s public hospital.
