The Rosenbauer fire truck was turned over to Brgy. Tubod yesterday, July 2, during the flag ceremony at the Anahaw Amphitheatre.
The fire truck is the latest version of the said model, the Rosenbauer version 2. It was acquired from the National Fire Training Institute with the funding from the Local Government Unit of Iligan. According to Fire Martial Baulete, one of the members of the Special Rescue Unit, the truck has a maximum capacity of 4,500 liters with two rapid deployments, one on each side. Breathing apparatuses, helmets, fire jackets, and other tools and equipment are also included in acquiring the fire truck.
Baulete also announced that the emergency hotline 911 can now be reached through mobile devices. Meanwhile, residents in Iligan can also call the local hotline 160 or 161 for an immediate emergency response.
The emergency response team is run by the Special Rescue Unit of Iligan (SRU), the local counterpart of the Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police. Currently, the city has one SRU team consisting of six men, where all members are experts in low- and high-angle, and underwater rescue.
A short demonstration on the capability of the Rosenbauer version 2 was also conducted by a five-man SRU team before turning over the equipment to Brgy. Captain June Cabahug of Tubod. A fire was started on the ground using kerosene, and the team performed a simulation on how they conduct the emergency response operations.
Baulete also stated that while the Rosenbauer can be quite difficult to procure, Iligan City is fortunate enough to already own a total of two Rosenbauer fire trucks, with the version 2 acquired on its last batch of procurement for the year 2018. He also announced that the LGU has already allotted a budget for a 4×4 emergency response vehicle next year which can be used by the SRU.
