TESDA Scholarship Granted to the Indigenous Peoples of Iligan

Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative/City Councilor Rolando D. So-ong initiated a meeting with Dr. Cenil G. Cortes and Engr. Salem M Tabzo, the representatives of TESDA Iligan last May 24 to discuss the scholarship offered by the said agency for the indigenous peoples. The meeting was held after Councilor So-ong requested the TESDA through Ms. Tarhata S Mapandi, the OIC Regional Director of TESDA Region 10 to provide slots for available technical training skills to the IPs of Iligan.

Datu Rolando D. So-ong mentioned that the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) announced that they are offering 15,000 slots for scholarship nationwide. In partnership with TESDA, 1,500 slots are allotted to Region 10, where 361 slots are for the IPs in the city.

The meeting was very timely as IPMR/City Councilor Rolando So-ong convened with the barangay IPMRs of Iligan at the Session Hall of Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Iligan.  As soon as the selection of indigenous scholars will be selected, the list will be endorsed to the Office of the City IPMR and the latter to endorse the same to the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Iligan for verification if the names enlisted for the scholarship are IPs. Thereafter, it will be submitted to TESDA so as to start the different technical training skills appropriate to the needs of the indigenous peoples.
