Members of Purok Coordinating Council Join the Lakbay-Aral Program at Central Material Recovery Facility (CMRF)

The Committee on Solid Waste Management, chaired by City Councilor Jesse Ray N. Balanay, conducted a massive education and information campaign on proper garbage segregation. The campaign was conducted with the Lakbay Aral for the members of the Purok Coordinating Council (PCC) from 33 coastal barangays of Iligan. This is in support of the Memorandum Order of Honorable City Mayor  Celso G. Regencia issued in January 2017 relative to the “No Segregation, No Collection Policy”.

The purpose of the said activity is to provide awareness on the graveness of the problem on garbage collection and disposal, and education about the waste segregation at source. Members of the PCC are considered as the front-liners in the implementation of Solid Waste Management Program of the city, thus, they need to know the status of Central Material Recovery Facility (CMRF).

City Councilor Jesse Ray N. Balanay aims to provide massive information to the people in Iligan City about the “waste segregation at source”, where the garbage originates is where the waste segregation should take place. He is also working towards the 100% implementation and compliance of the provision of RA 9003, otherwise known as Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 by the year 2019 to solve the problem on the leachate contamination that affects the Dodiongan Falls, rivers and waters of neighbouring barangays brought about by the Central Material Recovery Facility located at Sitio Bangko, Barangay Bonbonon, this city. Finally, this activity calls for an immediate response to the DENR Region X cease and desist order on the operation of the CMRF.
